Fault library
These are the faults we attend most often, with the causes we actually find on site and the tests used to confirm them.
Symptoms overlap: low pressure trips, icing and weak heating can all come from the same root cause. Measurement, not guesswork, decides the repair.
Heat pumps
Heat pumps faults
Heat Pump Not Heating Water
The unit runs but water stays cold or only reaches lukewarm temperatures.
Heat Pump Keeps Tripping the Breaker
The circuit breaker or earth leakage trips shortly after the heat pump starts.
Heat Pump Leaking Water
Water pooling under or around the unit, sometimes continuously.
Heat Pump Making Noise
Rattling, grinding, screeching or loud humming during operation.
Heat Pump Compressor Fault
The compressor will not start, hums and trips, or cuts out on overload.
Heat Pump High Pressure Fault
The unit locks out on a high pressure error, often after running for a while.
Heat Pump Low Pressure Fault
The unit trips on low pressure, typically in cold weather or early morning.
Heat Pump Icing Up
Ice forms on the evaporator coil and does not clear between cycles.
Steam systems
Steam systems faults
Boiler Not Producing Steam
The boiler fires but pressure will not build to the operating setpoint.
Steam Boiler Pressure Problems
Pressure swings, safety valve lifting, or pressure that cannot be held under load.
Boiler Low Water Alarm
The low water cut-out trips and stops the boiler even when the tank has water.
Steam Trap Failure
Traps blow live steam through, or run cold with condensate backing up.
Water Hammer in Steam Lines
Loud banging in steam mains, sometimes with pipework movement.
Hot water systems
Hot water systems faults
Hot Water Geyser Not Heating
No hot water at the taps although the geyser has power and water.
5 000 Litre Geyser Not Heating
A large storage geyser is not reaching temperature or recovers far too slowly.
Commercial Hot Water System Failure
The site loses hot water during peak periods while plant appears to be running.
Low or No Hot Water Pressure
Hot water pressure is much weaker than cold, or fluctuates at the outlet.
Calorifier Not Heating
The calorifier receives steam or hot water but the stored water stays cold.
