Small or Partial Cubes in Alexandra
Small or Partial Cubes in Alexandra, Johannesburg. Cubes are thin, small or only formed on part of the plate.
Urgency for this fault is normally priority. Call-outs are run from the central Johannesburg base, which keeps attendance windows short for kitchens in the northern and central suburbs.
The ice plant here is mostly estate clubhouses, guest houses, small restaurants and private bars, so the work is weighted towards undercounter and small modular machines. Where a site is on borehole or stored water, hardness and sediment shorten descaling intervals sharply, which is why we take a hardness reading before setting a maintenance schedule.
We diagnose in order of likelihood rather than replacing parts speculatively: check sump level and float setting, then clear spray bars and distributors, then measure pump flow.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What causes small or partial cubes?
The usual causes are low water level in the sump, blocked spray bar sections, weak water pump, short freeze cycle from control drift. Which one applies is settled on site by measurement, not guesswork.
How quickly can you attend in Alexandra?
Priority attendance applies to this fault. Call-outs are run from the central Johannesburg base, which keeps attendance windows short for kitchens in the northern and central suburbs. Call 069 268 0988 for the next available slot.
How is it diagnosed?
Check sump level and float setting; Clear spray bars and distributors; Measure pump flow; Time the freeze cycle; Read pressures and superheat.
Is this common on nugget ice machines?
Nugget plant is popular in healthcare because the ice is chewable, which also means the hygiene requirement on the dispense path is stricter. On nugget ice machines in Alexandra we see this fault regularly, usually alongside overdue descaling.
Which service will fix it?
Ice Machine Sanitising & Hygiene normally resolves it. Two to three hours per machine.
Can we keep operating in the meantime?
Sometimes — where the fault is a water-side problem the machine can often be run on reduced output until parts arrive. Where a compressor or leak is involved we advise buying in bagged ice while the repair is completed.
